Design Boards Premier Platform for Interior Designers

design boards

Today I want to share with you one of the bases of good interior design so that you can make your own process significantly better and improve your ability to create beautiful interiors. To do this, I will be exploring the process of making design boards. Sometimes you’ll be able to easily find images of these keepers online but oftentimes, they’re older or can’t be found exactly.

There’s two easy ways to do this in Canva without touching that background remover tool. I used to do this in Photoshop almost exclusively for this since it gave me the option to remove backgrounds from images. Before I learned Photoshop, I’d use Microsoft Powerpoint to do this sort of thing (don’t knock it, it’s actually super great for basic design!). These images don’t need to be the “exact” product you’d consider buying. Remember, you are just trying to get a sense for how things look together, so representations or “like” products are fine. For example, if you can’t decide between a neutral wallpaper or a colored one, find samples of both so you can experiment to see what you like best.

How to Plan Your Room Design & Create a Design Board

So, whether it’s that bold wallpaper choice or the minimalist furniture, make sure you articulate the ‘why’ behind every decision. If you’re presenting to a client, keep it professional. But if it’s for your BFF, feel free to sprinkle in some humor. Although it costs a monthly fee you could sign up for only one month and cancel your subscription.

Stunning Mood Board Creator for Interior Designers

For the tech-savvy, there’s a plethora of software options for digital boards. Tools like Adobe Spark and Canva can help you craft a digital masterpiece. But if you’re a fan of the tactile experience, physical boards might be your jam. Ever wondered what’s the secret sauce behind those stunning room designs you see in magazines?

Can I make a digital design board for free

Create inspiring design boards with your saved products to share with clients or use privately on your projects. Picmonkey is easy to learn and use and this is where I create all my design boards and graphics you see on my site and in my posts. I like to start with a template that already has swatch colors included.

If you saw a four poster bed you love in someones home its now time to head over to google and search for four poster beds. Alternatively you can click the post you saw on pinterest and see if they have the item shared on that blog post. For some people this is hard because they don’t LOVE a plain jute rug.

Brainstorm with others with built-in tools and templates, and get even more inspired when crafting your digital mood board. Looking for tools to help you craft the perfect design board? And if you’re hungry for more inspiration, this article is a treasure trove of ideas. For those going the physical route, gather materials like cork boards, push pins, and scissors. But remember, whether you’re going digital or physical, the essence lies in the images.

The mood board captures the essence of a room, often using images, colors, and textures. On the other hand, a material board showcases actual samples of materials – think fabrics, tiles, and wood chips. Canva is an online graphic design program intended for the everyday user. Not only is it FREE, but it’s also one of the quickest and most intuitive programs I’ve ever used to create graphics, flyers, invitations, labels, and more.

But my favourite way is to get a paint splotch graphic and throw it in there. There are graphics in Canva if you search for ‘paint splotch’ that you can recolor easily. You’ll know if you can recolor it if a little color block shows up in the top bar when the image is selected. The quickest is to just change the background color of your design by clicking on the white background and picking a color. You can really add items in any order and then play with the positioning (ex. bring to front). That said, I like to follow the same sort of process as I pull mine together.

I personally find that creating a design board not only helps me refine my vision for space, but (more importantly) guides every purchase so that I ultimately end up with the room I wanted. A quick word on finding and using paint colors on your virtual design board. I do think it’s important to bring in color “swatches” on your design board. However, be aware that digital representations of colors are not accurate reflections of what the color may look like in real life. Certainly use this method to pull shades that are close enough to allow you to evaluate general colors (e.g., red versus blue) for walls, furniture, etc. But don’t use online swatches to determine exact shades or if something matches just right.

Most often something will jump out at me as a starting point. Maybe I am designing a bedroom and I see a four poster bed frame that I love. Everything I choose will be with this as my starting point.

You can choose from many options; you just need to pick one according to your needs. Miro’s mood board generator is flexible and easy to use, allowing you to add as many artifacts as you need in one infinite canvas. Design boards are a great tool, when it comes to the planning process of decorating a room or designing a space. They show how you would style a room and pull a concept together. If this is just for your own use, it’s totally cool to use photographs to help create a design board.
